Genomics England successfully led the world-leading 100,000 Genomes Project, which compared and analysed individuals’ genetic codes to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
We're now accelerating our impact, working with the NHS to further develop and embed genomic healthcare and research in Britain. Our next chapter involves working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
In this role, you will work with others to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the finance ledgers, promote one version of the truth, and enable the organisation to report financial positions with assurance up to the strategic level.
You will be responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective delivery of key statutory and operational activity and have direct supervision of other staff, who may be part-qualified accountants, with a responsibility to engage and provide advice and insight to the non-finance teams working across the organisation.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A full CCAB or equivalent qualification
Demonstrable experience of delivery of key financial contractual and/or regulatory duties including managing relationships with suppliers and/or internal teams to support seamless services e.g. payroll, VAT, tax
Proven experience as a subject expert, with a partnering mentality, to provide technical accounting advice/challenge in line with relevant finance good practice, translating technical matters for non-technical experts as required
Be confident presenting financial information to senior staff, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the governance and regulatory environment in which GEL operates
Be able to lead on producing relevant parts of the statutory financial accounts at a senior level, working with colleagues and auditors to agree on accounting treatments. Review regulatory papers and implement them into robust processes
Assist in performing, validating and maintaining GEL's monthly financial accounting processes and reporting, both on and off the system in line with Finance Timetable
Be able to understand and engage in an ongoing process to monitor and manage financial risk across GEL
Experience of managing and leading a team of Finance Officers, ensuring that we have the right skills in place to deliver our objectives
