Professor Caroline Wright

Variant Discovery and Clinical Interpretation co-lead

Professor Caroline Wright joined the University of Exeter as a Senior Lecturer in 2017 and was promoted to chairperson in genomic medicine in 2020. Her main research interests include the use of genome-wide sequencing technologies for the diagnosis of rare diseases. She previously seconded part-time to Genomics England as scientific lead for validation and feedback in the early stages of the 100,000 Genomes Project. She also worked at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where she remains a part of the management committee for the UK Deciphering Developmental Disorders Study and translational lead for DECIPHER. Now, she will co-lead the Variant Discovery and Clinical Interpretation community, which seeks to expedite rare disease diagnosis through genomic research.
