Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Storage Infrastructure Architect to join our Delivering Scalable Technology Service.

This service, is the underpinning foundation that enables the development of cutting edge advancements in both Healthcare service provision and Research collaboration to design and deliver personalised medicine.

As an Architect, you will play a key role in shaping our future storage infrastructure strategy. You will design and develop storage solutions for large scale data sets. You will work across a hybrid estate, improving our on-premise infrastructure as well as identifying opportunities to utilise cloud storage.

Skills & Responsibilities

  • Design and architect storage solutions for large-scale data sets, with a focus on petabyte-scale environments
  • Evaluate, implement, and optimize storage technologies to meet the organization's performance and scalability requirements (we use Weka/Quantum)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate storage solutions into on-premise or private cloud environments
  • Develop and implement strategies for data management, including backup, recovery, and archival processes
  • Solid understanding of networking and firewall concepts
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in storage, computing, and networking
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to design and implement robust storage solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology)
  • Deep understanding of storage technologies (WEKA/Quantum/Isilon)
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or life sciences organization
  • Familiarity with genomic data sets and their unique storage requirements
  • Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect)

Salary from: £86,000

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
