Dr Ellen Thomas

Interim Chief Medical Officer

Ellen Thomas trained as a clinical geneticist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, and has worked at Genomics England since 2015. She studied for a PhD at Imperial College, using early high-throughput sequencing technology to investigate genetic contributions to adult-onset genomic conditions.

At Genomics England she has worked on delivery of the 100,000 Genomes Project, and now leads on Genomics England’s contributions to the NHS Genomic Medicine Service, as well as supporting the connections between research and clinical care for participants and researchers within the National Genomic Research Library.

Ellen’s primary goal is to harness the power of genomics to provide high quality insights to patients and clinicians in the NHS, by applying great science, technology and processes.
