Dr Henrike Heyne

Dr. Henrike Heyne is a lecturer and research group leader at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute. A medical doctor and data scientist by training, she completed her MD and doctoral degree at the University of Leipzig and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, before undertaking postdoctoral research fellowships at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM). Her work uses large-scale genomic and health data, including biobanks such as UK Biobank, FinnGen and BioMe, to uncover the genetic causes of disease and translate that understanding into clinical care, with a particular focus on ion-channel-related conditions such as epilepsy. Her work has been published in journals including Nature, Nature Genetics and Science Translational Medicine. Believing in the value of collaborative and transdisciplinary research, Dr. Heyne brings her expertise to the Genotype-Phenotype Associations Community as co-lead, helping members connect genetic variation to clinical phenotypes and accelerate genomic discoveries into patient benefit
