Professor Claire Shovlin

Implementation and Data Enhancement  lead

Claire Shovlin, Professor of Practice (Clinical and Molecular Medicine) is a physician and scientist based at Imperial College London. She co-leads the Social, Genetic & Environmental Determinants of Health Theme for the NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre, and runs parallel NHS clinical services and research programmes for people with pulmonary and inherited vasculopathies. Her research focuses on broader consequences of the highest impact DNA variants which operate differently in cells under stress, particularly those resulting in premature termination codons or impacting 3’ UTR cleavage and polyadenylation sites.

Claire chaired the Genomics England’s Respiratory Clinical Interpretation Partnership (GeCIP), and played significant roles in the set up and delivery of the NHS Genomic Medicine Service through West London Genomic Medicine Centre, the NHS North Thames Genomic Service Alliance, and the NHS GMS Research Collaborative Steering Committee.  Now, she will lead our Implementation and Data Enhancement community which will seek to effectively integrate whole genome sequencing into the NHS.
