About the speakers:

Paul Gissen, UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health

Paul Gissen is a Clinical Professor of Paediatric Metabolic Medicine at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, Honorary Consultant Paediatric Metabolic Diseases at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust and a NIHR Senior Investigator. He is the  Director Designate of the National Institute for Health and Care Research GOSH Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR GOSH BRC) and leads the Gene, Stem and Cellular Therapies. He is also the UK Chief Investigator for a number of industry and academic sponsored clinical trials of novel therapies. Professor Gissen obtained his medical degree from the University of Glasgow and trained in paediatrics at Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham Children’s Hospitals specialising in inherited metabolic disorders. He undertook his PhD at Birmingham University where he identified genetic causes of several rare paediatric diseases. His research interests are in developing novel gene based therapies for Rare Paediatric Metabolic Disorders.

About the research seminars:

The Genomics England Research Seminar series is a season of events held to demonstrate the best research from Genomics England and our partners. They started in October 2018, and are monthly, free-to-attend talks presented by Research Network members on the latest research being performed using data from the National Genomic Research Library.

The seminars will be held on the last Tuesday of each month at 2 to 3pm. These will be online sessions open to everyone and free to attend, we hope to have representation from across the Research Network and 100,000 Genomes Project participants as well as anyone else who would be interested in joining.
