New Chair joins GECIP Board

Professor Eamonn Sheridan has been appointed to the Genomics England Clinical Interpretation Partnership (GECIP) Board as Chair. Professor Sheridan was Medical Director at North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH), Professor of Clinical Genetics at University of Leeds, and Chair and vice-Chair at The British Society for Genetic Medicine.

His clinical and academic activity was centred on recessive disease in the Pakistani Heritage community in West Yorkshire, and was directed at identifying novel disease genes in paediatric populations, where they used a variety of cutting-edge DNA sequencing techniques.

Professor Sheridan has extensive experience teaching in an academic research setting, as well as experience working within NHS England, NHS Improvement and NHS GLHs.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Eamonn Sheridan as the new GECIP Board Chair. Professor Sheridan brings to this role extensive experience working at the interface between research and clinical practice in genomics, and in working with GEL through our GECIPs.

We are confident that his expertise and experience will align well with Genomics England's research community, and look forward to working with him in developing and improving the GECIPs to assist us all driving genomics research forwards.

Professor Matt Brown, Chief Scientific Officer, Genomics England

Professor Sheridan’s appointment as GECIP Board Chair will help to ensure that Genomics England’s mission for everyone to benefit from genomic research and healthcare translates into reality.
