Amalina Bakri

Genomics England Ambassador

Dr Amalina Bakri is a Clinical Research Fellow at the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Department of Surgery and Cancer, Imperial College London. Dr Bakri graduated as a medical doctor from Edinburgh Medical School, The University of Edinburgh in 2013 where she also completed BMedSc Pharmacology with ERASMUS exchange at Leiden University, The Netherlands. She did an internship in Harvard Medical School, USA followed by a foundation year training (FY1-FY2) in Cambridge. Simultaneously, she completed her Master's in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics from University of Cambridge during her foundation training years.

During her surgical training in London, she competitively won the Darzi Clinical Research Fellowship and is currently doing a PhD in surgical innovation and breast cancer using wearable activity monitors in order to improve patient outcomes. Her PhD project is funded by NIHR. Additionally, she is an academic supervisor for BSc and MEng students at Imperial College London. She presented her research projects at many international conferences and published them in high-impact journals. She is also a lecturer for Imperial Master’s of Health Policy.

Aside from her academic and clinical work, Dr. Bakri is a strong advocate for women's empowerment and shares educational posts for public health education and medical teaching for medical students and junior doctors on social media with over 1 million followers across Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. She also works with Public Health England (NHS) and No. 10 Downing Street on the latest COVID vaccine campaigns on their official social media platforms. She regularly gets invitations to become a panellist for many women's empowerment and educational events. She’s a country lead and co-founder of Girls4Girls UK, where she spearheaded a national leadership course to encourage young women to become leaders. She has received multiple awards, including being highly commended at the UK Women of the Future Award 2021, Inspirational Youth Award from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Malaysia, Muslim National Award from the King of Malaysia, and being chosen as one of the Asia GenT Leaders of Tomorrow.
