Frances Allan

Participant Panel member

Frances Allan is privileged to join the Genomics England Participant Panel. With a background as a veterinary surgeon and Director she has passion for animal welfare. An important part of this work is speaking on behalf of abused and neglected animals as an expert witness.

In March 2023, Frances faced a challenging time in her life with a diagnosis of high-grade serous ovarian cancer. The discovery of the presence of a BRCA-2 mutation and the additional treatment options, it allowed created an interest to explore genomics further. This gave her the awareness of the huge potential of genomics in personalising healthcare.

Frances envisions a future where the identification of gene variants will lead to the development of precise therapies and personalised medicine.

Frances sees the Generation study as an opportunity to engage participants and their families from the earliest stages of life.
