Genomics England partners with the NHS to provide whole genome sequencing diagnostics. We also equip researchers to find the causes of disease and develop new treatments – with patients and participants at the heart of it all.

We are looking for 2 Audience Engagement Leads to join us.

Overall job purpose

The Audience Engagement Leads will build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to take an engagement led approach to shaping and delivering Genomics England's strategic objectives and to build Genomics England's reputation for equitable engagement in the field of genomic science. This role is key to ensuring Genomics England listens and responds to the perspectives of different audiences to deliver its strategic objectives and to continue to build and maintain trust in its work.

The Audience Engagement Leads will work flexibly across the accountabilities identified below leading the development and delivery of engagement strategies and plans with Genomics England's priority audiences, specifically: participants, patient advocacy groups and charities and the public, including diverse communities, and academic and commercial researchers. These roles will also partner with Genomics England colleagues to understand, provide expert advice on and deliver engagement with other key audiences within healthcare, research and government and will bring oversight to Genomics England's priority relationships.  

Job Description

  • Lead the development and delivery of Genomics England's engagement strategy with its priority audiences
    • Define and understand Genomics England’s priority audiences, gathering and maintaining insight into their changing attitudes and requirements to inform Genomics England's engagement approach
    • Collaborate with Genomics England colleagues to integrate engagement insights into the design, development and delivery of Genomics England's work to ensure these respond to the needs and expectations of our different audiences.
    • Develop cross organisational strategies for engagement with Genomics England's priority audiences, setting priorities and defining engagement approaches taking account of how these can be adapted and delivered within particular strategic initiatives.
    • Lead procurement processes to commission external suppliers to support delivery, managing multiple engagement projects simultaneously to deliver desired outcomes.
    • Deliver engagement plans tailored for different audiences, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure these are aligned with company requirements, that our approach is inclusive of seldom heard communities, and embeds equity so that we promote equitable access and outcomes for genomic healthcare and research.
    • Develop approaches to measure and report on the impact of engagement with different audiences.
    • Playing a leading role in designing and delivering relevant events hosted by Genomics England or coordinating Genomics England's presence at ecosystem events to meet the needs of different audiences and demonstrate Genomics England's role as a convenor.
    • Work with the Communications Chapter and other audience owners to develop narratives and messaging for different audiences, ensuring that this is reflected on our external communications.
  • Provide oversight for Genomics England's priority stakeholder relationships to bring greater coordination and strategic alignment to engagement plans with this audience to increase our organisational impact.
  • Be the Genomics England audience owner for public, participant and patient advocacy group/ charity audiences to design, deliver, maintain and oversee Genomics England's engagement with this audience. Ensure that the benefits of genomics are delivered in step with our participants and public sentiment and felt equitably,  maintaining trust throughout.
  • Agree and deliver engagement priorities and plans to support the Engaging Research Scientist Tribe to promote and advance the use of the Research Environment with academic and commercial research audiences.
  • Provide expert advice to develop engagement strategies and plans to meet those requirements, to prioritise Engagement Chapter support and to work flexibly to meet those requirements.
  • Provide expert, authoritative engagement advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Genomics England colleagues.
  • Proactively build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships across a complex stakeholder environment, demonstrating Genomics England's expertise in and commitment to engagement.
  • Know and understand the meaning behind our virtues and leadership behaviours and embody them in all aspects of your role.

Qualifications

We are not looking for specific qualifications for this role. We are looking for proven experience leading large-scale, complex engagement programmes with diverse audiences including the public, government, healthcare, academia and industry audiences.

Salary from: £65,500

Blended working model

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility that hybrid working can bring. We expect most people to come into the office a minimum of 2 times each month. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that people will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require full time on site attendance e.g., lab teams, reception team. 

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are: Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
