Genomics England is looking for a Planning Lead to lead and oversee our annual business planning. In this pivotal role, you will work enterprise wide, across all areas of the business to ensure clear alignment, tracking, and successful delivery of our goals.
Genomics England is entering a new 4 year funding cycle on the back of new Government investment. Working closely with our newly formed PMO and reporting in part to the Head of Delivery and Governance, you’ll help set up and implement new strategic initiatives and embed strong governance across major programmes– as well as overseeing our OKR (Objectives and Key Results) process. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact at the heart of GEL’s growth and delivery.
Job Description
- Leading the annual business planning both overseeing the design of the planning process, running and facilitating sessions and ensuring the output resulting in an actionable plan for the PMO to monitor delivery progress against
- Work closely with the Directors of Finance and Procurement respectively to ensure join up and shared Insight Into the business planning.
- Working with the Head of Delivery and Governance on tracking delivery and alignment against the annual business plan through the year by working closely with Service Owners across the business and working with the PMO to ensure aligned and Insightful reporting.
- Overseeing GELs five-year business plan which translates GELs strategy into a year by year roadmap.
- Oversee and work to continuously Improve the OKR process
- Supporting the set up, planning and governance of the new SR initiatives
- Looking at the monitoring and evaluation of Genomics England’s delivery, especially for the new impact initiatives and implementing a process to oversee this and escalating concerns
- Know and understand the meaning behind our virtues and leadership behaviours and embody them in all aspects of your role.
Qualifications
Whilst we acknowledge relevant, suitable qualifications, we are mostly interested in your experience. We are looking for the following essential skills/experience where you have:
- led annual enterprise business planning cycles, designed and implemented planning processes and worked with leaders across a business to work through the planning cycle
- a problem solving mindset and skills that enables you to work on complex multi-faceted challenges
- excellent stakeholder management and facilitation skills
- experience in monitoring and tracking planning and reporting results to Boards/executive leadership teams.

Blended working model
Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility that hybrid working can bring. We expect most people to come into the office a minimum of 2 times each month. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. There is no expectation that people will return to the office full time unless they want to, however, some of our roles require full time on site attendance e.g., lab teams, reception team.
Our teams and squads have, and will continue to reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are: Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
